Interview Tips
It’s always hard to feel prepared for an interview and no matter how many times you have gone through it, it’s always a daunting experience.
Here are some tips that will help you conquer those fears and anxiety.
As a Candidate make sure to know about the company and the position that you are interviewing for. The goal at the end of the interview is to really understand the job, the company, and if this is the right position for you.
Remember, the interviewer is looking to fill the position with the best candidate and he/she will be looking to gather information, qualify, and to assess your qualifications for the role.
Plan Ahead!
• To be successful during the interview, be sure to understand the job you are applying for and how the responsibilities and skills required will relate back to you and your qualifications for the position
• Highlight what you can bring to the table and make reference of it during the interview
• Make sure to research the company and its partners, have an understanding of who they are, what they do, and the products/services they represent
• Visit the company’s website to learn as much as you can about them
Be Prepared!
• Anticipate the questions that will be asked and provide specific examples that will highlight your skills
• Take a few seconds to organize your thoughts and relate the answers to personal experiences – work, school or other
• Answer questions using the SAR method (Situation, Action, Results)
• Remember to answer questions honestly and sincerely
• Be positive and turn weaknesses into strengths
Dress the Part!
• “First impressions are important” Always remember to be professionally dressed. That doesn’t mean you need to wear a suit but make sure you are well dressed, put together, and presentable from head to toe. No matter how causal the working environment is, remember you are coming in to make an impression – the right impression
Make Eye Contact!
• Interviewers are always looking to see how you handle yourself during the interview
• Confident body language and good eye contact are key
Ask Questions!
• Ask questions that will help you decide if you are a good match for the position and organization
• Remember this is your chance to interview the company!
