The Hiring Process

Q. What steps are involved in the hiring process?

A. Most successful applicants follow a common series of steps:

  • The applicant arrives at our Web site, usually through referral or from seeing an advertisement on a job board.
  • They create a profile to tell us about their qualifications and interests, and then search the job listings.   A profile includes all the necessary information that a cover letter and resume would encompass.
  • Upon finding a relevant job opportunity, they apply for the position online, making sure to complete all sections of the online application.
  • A Mosaic recruiter then reviews the application and contacts the applicant if they are deemed qualified.
  • If successful, the applicant is then scheduled for a phone interview.  Successful phone interviews will then be scheduled for 1-on-1 interview.  These interviews are primarily conducted face-to-face, although sometimes we will interview individuals via videoconference.
  • Upon successful completion of the 1-on-1 interview, the applicant is then presented with an opportunity to go out for an in-field visit.
  • Assuming everything comes back in good standing, the applicant then receives an offer and begins training and orientation (aka the secret Mosaic handshake).

Q. How long does it take to complete the hiring process?

A. It can vary, from a day to a couple of weeks depending on the position and your situation. Generally, however, a job applicant will take 30 days to complete all steps and start in a position.

Q. I just applied for a position online. How long will it take before I’m contacted about scheduling an interview?

A. You should receive acknowledgment by e-mail that your application has been received within two to three days. If we find the position matches your qualifications, we will contact you to schedule interviews with the recruiting team as soon as possible. If you do have any questions please feel free to e-mail us at recruiting.canada@mosaic.com.

Q. Can I refer a friend for a job?

A. Yes, there are two ways. To refer someone in general to Mosaic, simply click on the “Refer A Friend” icon in the bottom left hand corner of any page in www.mosaicjbos.com .  Or if you see a job your friend would be a fit for, simply use the “Send This Job to a Friend” button at the bottom of the job list or job posting. The posting will then be sent to your friend along with an email from you.

Q. Do you offer referral bonuses?

A. At this time, referral bonuses are offered to current and recent employees of Mosaic only. Even if you’re not an employee, however, we encourage you to refer a friend to our Web site. Good karma, after all, is a give and get kind of thing. See Refer a Friend for more information.

Creating and Managing Your Profile

Q. What is a “Profile”?

A. Your “Profile” is a means to inform Mosaic of your job interests and skills without actually applying for a specific job. The profile provides us with a snapshot of your background, which we then refer to during candidate searches. Essentially, it’s a great way to keep your career options open.  A career profile is like sending in your cover letter and resume to our organization.  Your career profile stays on file with us, so even though we may not have an opportunity at this time we can revisit your application once an opportunity becomes available.

Q. Why should I take the time to fill out a profile rather than simply sending you my resume?

A. Having an online profile not only saves you time, but also makes it easy to apply for multiple positions at Mosaic. In addition, we regularly recruit people by searching our database of profiles. In other words, we come to you!  Most important though is we only accept online applications, we do not accept e-mailed resumes.

Q. How do I change or update my profile?

A. To change information stored in your profile, including personal information and work history, log in to the recruitment system using your current e-mail and password. Once you make and save your changes, your profile will be updated immediately.

Q. What if I forget my password?

A. On the login screen, input your username/e-mail address and select the “forgot password” link. Your password will be emailed to you within the hour.

Q. How do I opt-out of receiving job alert e-mails?

A. In order to unsubscribe from receiving job alerts, log in to the system and “uncheck” the e-mail alert option.

Conducting a Job Search

Q. How can I find a job that best fits my interests?

A. Jobs can be filtered by job category, location or organization. Using keywords, it is also possible to filter jobs by job content and job number. Note: To view or hide the search controls, click Search Controls. To view or hide the search criteria, click Selected Search Criteria.

Q. How do I know if you have opportunities in my area?

A. There are two ways to find this information out.  First you can regularly visit our website, check out our job lists.  Or you can activate our job alert e-mails, which will send you an e-mail of our job opportunity the address you have provided.

Q. How many opportunities do you have?

A. As the top field sales organization in Canada, we’re constantly growing. As such, new job opportunities are always popping up. To figure out how many, however, would require a full-time person (and no, that’s not a job you can apply for).

Q. What if I live in a small town?

A. We have opportunities in a large variety of cities and towns across Canada.  Generally, the larger the city or town – the more opportunities we will have. If you are willing to travel to a larger city centre, please indicate this in the areas where you can work and indicate your ability to travel in your cover letter.  Also, a lot of our programs visit Wal-Marts – so where there’s a Wal-Mart – there’s a job opportunity.

Q. What if I want to work on a certain type of business or for a certain client?

A. During your interview you can indicate areas of the business that interest you the most.  Ultimately it is the decision of our recruiting team to determine which job opportunity is the best fit for you.  We base these decisions on opportunities in your area, your previous experiences, interests, skills, and behaviours.

Q. What types of job opportunities do you have?

A. We have a wide variety of job opportunities that can fit your lifestyle.  All of our opportunities are part-time, some are on a long-term (or on-going basis), or some are more short-term in nature (one day – two weeks in length).  We have opportunities in sales, merchandising, and character appearances.

Q. What if I am looking for a job with increased responsibility, such as team leader?

A. Mosaic has a real philosophy of hiring from within.  A key component of a team leader role is being able to relate to the team out in field.  Your job as a team leader is to motivate, lead, and ensure the representatives in the field are executing with excellence.  This is difficult to do unless you have gained the experience first hand and know what it is like to be in the field, to experience the challenges.

Submitting an Application

Q. Do I have to apply online in order to be considered?

A. Yes, all candidates must apply online through the careers section of the Web site. There are specific job requirements included in the online application process that ensure all candidates are reviewed in the same fashion, with the same required form.

Q. How do I know if the position is still open?

A. A position is still open as long as the job posting is viewable on the Web site. Once a position has been filled, the job posting will be removed.

Q. How do I know if my online application was received?

A. You will be notified of the receipt of your submission by email, typically the same day.

Q. Can I submit my resume to Mosaic even if there isn’t a specific position available?

A. Yes. By creating a profile and entering your skills and qualifications into the system, you enable Mosaic recruiters to perform searches based on your information. In addition, you may also request to be notified via email about opportunities that match specific criteria that you have defined in your profile.

Q. Do I have to answer the same questions online every time I apply for a position?

A. It depends. All of your previous application data is saved on our system, so it may be as easy as answering a couple of new questions about the job and updating your background details appropriately.

Q. If I apply for more than one position, will I be considered for both?

A. Yes, you will be considered for any position you apply for. We occasionally have positions that are short-term and therefore we may be able to have you work in both positions if the hours do not conflict.

Q. How long does the online application process take?

A. You can expect the online application process to take 15 – 30 minutes the first time.  After you have submitted your profile you can apply to positions as they come up.

Q. How long is my profile kept on file?

A. Your electronic profile will be kept for a period of seven years, during which time you can continually update it. Once a profile has been dormant for more than seven years it is deleted.  If you wish to have your profile deleted prior to the seven years, simply send us an e-mail at recruiting.canada@mosaic.com requesting it be deleted.

Other Questions

Q. What do you look for in resumes?

A. Not only do we look for previous experience but we look for volunteering experience and community involvement.  No experience is too silly, it is the soft skills we are interested in.  Please refer to Profile Tips for the types of information we are looking for.

Q. What if I don’t have a car?

A. If you are not able to access your own it severely hurts your chances of working on a Mosaic program.  A large majority of our programs require that you provide your own transportation to your location.  We do compensate individuals for use of their vehicle between calls in our compensation package.

Q. How much do your positions pay?

A. All of our programs involve a very competitive hourly wage.  Our compensation varies slightly by program.  At the time of the phone screen our recruiters will discuss with you the specific compensation package for the program they are considering you for.

Q. I’ve interviewed before but didn’t get the job; will I still be considered for other positions?

A. Just because you were not hired for one position, doesn’t mean that you are not hireable.  All it means at the time is you are not the top candidate for that position.  Many people who now work for Mosaic did not get offered the first job they applied for.

Q. How long are your opportunities?

A. Our programs very in length. Often the length of the program will be outlined up-front in the job description.  If it is not outlined there, it will definitely be covered by one of our recruiters during the phone interview. Our long-term part-time programs are on-going and we are interested in people who are looking to make a long-term commitment.  Our tactical or short-term opportunities range from one day to two weeks in length.

Q. What if I am interested in future opportunities after my program finishes?

A. Mosaic looks to reward employees who have done a great job by giving them the first opportunity to work on new programs. It is an asset to have someone we know is a solid performer, and will be able to hit the street running in a small amount of time.  Many of our blitz reps graduate to long-term part-time roles when they become available.

Q. If I am not available for every shift, can I still apply for the job?

A. Some programs require you to be available for every shift, and some programs have a little more flexibility.  Don’t let a small potential conflict in availability stop you from applying.  Our recruiters will make a determination of your fit on the program given your availability.  Preference will be given to people who are available for the most shifts.

Q. As a returning user, how do I log back in?

A. As a returning user you can operate the system much like a new user.  The only difference is when you login to our system to update your profile or to apply to a job you click on “I am a returning user”.

Q. What is my username?

A. Your username is the e-mail address that you used to originally login.  If you are absolutely unsure of your username, you can contact: recruiting.canada@mosaic.com and they can provide you that information.

Q. What if my city isn’t in the listed cities in the personal information section of the application?

A. Simply find the city/metro location closest to you and then in the “City: Other” field indicate your specific city.

Q. So are you an employment agency?

A. We are not an employment agency.  Employment agencies for the most part just place people in jobs. We partner with our clients to not only hire the people to make the difference but to plan out solutions to their brand objectives. We are an outsourced marketing and promotions organization. You are paid by us, trained by us and managed by us, but you represent our clients out in the field.

Q. Are you a credit card company?

A. We wish. The Bank of Montreal does have a Mosaik (with a “k”) credit card.  Other people have confused us with this, but we have no affiliation with a credit card.  We are a marketing solutions organization.

Q. I applied to many positions, but haven’t heard anything.  Why?

A. There could be a couple of reasons. First, the positions you have applied for may have been filled by an applicant with a better fit, or internally by a veteran part-time employee. It also might be that your applications have been incomplete. Play it safe by ensuring all parts of your profile and application forms are complete. Keeping a positive attitude might help as well (it’s that karma thing again).

Q. If I don’t complete my profile, will I still be considered for any positions?

A. No – we need to get a full understanding of you.  An incomplete profile doesn’t tell us the information we need to make a decision.  Just think to yourself, who would you consider first – someone who has taken the time and shown the interest to go through the application, or someone who didn’t show the same effort in applying? (Hint: it’s the first answer.)

Q. I have worked for Mosaic before, how do I ensure I get considered for future opportunities?

A. As much as possible we try to have employees that have worked for us before, work on future programs.  But there are a couple of things you will want to do.  Make sure your profile is updated online with all of your current contact information.  In section 2 of 8 in the application process there is a box you can check off that says: “Please check if you are currently employed by Mosaic Sales Solutions and enter your Mosaic Sales Solutions employee number in the field below.”  We still need you to apply online to jobs you are interested in.  It is important that we know that you are interested in future work opportunities.  If you don’t update your profile online or apply to future positions there is no way us knowing that you are currently looking for work.

Q. How do I find out about job opportunities in my area?

A. Ensure you are checking our website regularly for new job opportunities. In section 4 of 8 in our application process, you can also click a box at the top of the page to say: “Yes, I would like to receive e-mail alerts for Mosaic job opportunities that match my profile.”
